As you've probably heard, Gimkit released their newest game, Apocalypse, today! Trust me when I say, the game is EPIC!!!
In this post, I'll share my first thoughts on Apocalypse with you, so let's go!
Do you have what it takes to hold back the Horde?😉
Lobby
The lobby was awesome and mysterious. There's not much to say about it except that Gimkit seems to be sticking to using its current model for lobbies.
This includes using their in-game-image device to explain how you need to answer questions (to gain energy) so that you can accomplish the goal of the game (in this case, defending your bunker from the Horde). ⚡
This game allows you to use your weapons in the lobby, similar to Gimkit's other games, though anything you break is fixed when you start the game.
Lore
Kinda like DLD and Knockback, Apocalypse has no lore. Or does it?
Hidden in the top right corner of the map (behind barriers of concrete to keep you away) you can see the crashes wreckage of a spaceship. This mysterious ship is the very escape pod used by the crew of the Alphastar (the ship from the end of OWO).
So, apparently, the crew made it off their infected ship only to crash on a planet ruled by zombies. The Season 1 2025 season ticket features a Chemical Supreme sticker; this makes me think that maybe - just maybe - the zombies were made by the same material as the evil plants. 🧪
Maybe the crew accidentally made the zombies the same way they made the plants? Or maybe Dr. Synapse (from the season ticket) was responsible? Well, we'll never know...
The Horde
The great enemy pursuing you after the world of Apocalypse underwent its apocalypse is very cool. This is the first time that Gimkit has ever featured moving Sentries in a game, which is very impressive. This is a huge jump in Gimkit technology; hopefully Gimkit can feature and build on this mechanic more in the future! 🧠
The Horde is a constantly growing army of zombies; they come in the forms of corrupt lizards, rock golems, possessed tornadoes, cacti, and semi-trucks. These zombies comes in varying sizes - the stronger they are, the larger (and faster) they are!
Here's a quick video of my first play-through of Apocalypse (in Expert mode):
Resistance
When you enter the game, you're given the option to choose which role you want your defending Gim to use.
Every role has its perks, allowing you to help your team (or just yourself if playing alone) with your individual powers! 🤝
By going back to the entrance to your vault, you have the ability to change your role, which can be really helpful if you need to switch to being a Healer so that you can restore your vault's structural integrity.
Overall Rating
Okay, it's the moment you've possibly been waiting for! It's time for me to give Apocalypse a rating on my G.G.S. Scale (Gimmie a Good Score)... 🙂
Due to the vast quantity of cool new mechanics introduced into the world of Gimkit, how need the game was, and how amazing and action-packed it was, my rating is 11/10.
The game is truly very fun and I feel that it's perfect for playing in large classes or with your friends. I hope you enjoy playing it! 🤩
