Welcome to my first game review - the game, Hide and Seek: Winter Beta, was made by GKC user Coolcaden16. At first glance, it didn't make sense to me. Once I played it longer, I grew to like it. WARNING: This article may include spoilers for the game.
The Goal
The goal of Hide and Seek Winter is for the seekers to find all of the hiders and knock them out. Doing so converts them to your team, similar to the infection system in Snowy Survival.
Pros
I really liked how the game made you run down a long hall with a dozen buttons that unlocked barriers. After 3 or so buttons, there were more with a longer wait time, and then a few more with an even longer stall, which made for a more pleasant challenge. I found it funny after unlocking so many barriers, I was stuck in a dead end - LOL. The game was also great because of how many interesting props there were to hide behind - it makes it a better challenge for seekers to find the hiders.
I also liked all of the hidden areas added to the game - this includes GimLabs (a futuristic robot factory) and Plantsville (a small region of the map where sentient plants can help protect the hiders from the seekers). They add a certain je ne ce quoi to the game.
Cons
One thing I found frustrating was the energy consumption rate. I feel like the game would be better if you didn't have to answer as many questions to avoid running out of energy. In addition, I wish the game host didn't have to end the game themselves, because that creates extra work for a host. Hopefully the game's creator will make this a feature eventually.
Other Cool Features
There's also a fun crafting table that makes key cards with energy that give you access to hidden areas. This includes the golden key card (takes you near the seeker spawn point), the green key card (leads to Plantsville), and the purple key card (which leads to the dead-ended hall). The crafting table also lets you make extra weapons to fight the opposing team.
Conclusion
With the exception of the excessive energy consumption rate, I really liked the game. I'll give it a rating of 7/10 on my new GimStream Scale of Excellence. I'll have another game rating ready sometime later this week - it takes me a long time to review a game thoroughly. You can check it out through the link below.
